Dr. Poirier, originally from Grande-Digue, New Brunswick, has built a distinguished medical career grounded in a strong educational background.

He earned his Health Sciences diploma from the University of Moncton before pursuing his Medical Doctorate at the University of Sherbrooke, where he advanced into the General Surgery program. He later specialized in vascular and endovascular surgery, completing his residency at the University of Montreal.

Since returning to Moncton in 2016, Dr. Poirier has concentrated on enhancing patient care in vascular and endovascular surgery at the Moncton City Hospital. He has been nominated and has taken the role to represent Vascular Surgery on the board of the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians in Canada since 2019. Additionally, he serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Dalhousie University.
